Freedom boats - Touring Gigs

Features common to all Freedom touring gigs;

  • Cox position may be removable, and convertible to a sculling position (this is optional, not standard).
  • Same shape as those already popular in Europe.
  • Big hatches on each seat deck for storing clothing etc.
  • 40cm hatch on bow canvas, 20cm hatch on stern canvas for storing bigger items.
  • Built in keel for exceptional strength and stiffness, as well as great tracking.
  • Stainless steel keel strip to protect the keel.
  • Choice of riggers, see “rigger” page.
  • Choice of rowing shoes or flexfoot, see “fittings” page
  • Handles for easy carrying.
  • Large rudder for good manoeuvrability.
  • Enclosed seat deck for exceptional buoyancy/safety.
  • Supplied with steering stretcher, when ordered with extra sculling position.

Touring Gig 4+

The Touring Gig 4+ is available with sweep riggers only, scull riggers only, or with both sweep and scull riggers, so can be rowed as 4x+, 4+, or even as 5x.

Specifications

  • Length: 10.97m (36 feet)
  • Width at top of saxboards (excluding width of lip): 74cm (29.1 inches)
  • Overall depth at mid-point (including height of lip): 34cm (13.4 inches)
  • Weight depends upon rigger type, and whether it is scull or sweep, and also whether the grade is Club A or Club B. As a guide, with sweep Euro riggers, Club A is about 79kg, and Club B is about 87kg. Add 4 kg for scull riggers. If you need exact details, please contact your distributor.

Touring Gig 2+ Long

In late 2008 we added the Touring Gig 2+ (long) to our range of Freedom Boats.

This is available with various rigger combinations: with sweep riggers only, scull riggers only, or with both sweep and scull riggers, so can be rowed as 2x+, 2+. As with the 4+, the cox position can be converted into an additional sculler, so even as 3x is possible.

  • Length: 9.17m (30 feet 1 inch)
  • Width at top of saxboards (excluding width of lip): 73cm (28.7 inches)
  • Overall depth at mid-point (including height of lip): 33.5cm (13.2 inches)
  • Weight depends upon rigger type, and whether it is scull or sweep, and also whether the grade is Club A or Club B. As a guide, with sweep Euro riggers, Club A is about 59kg, and Club B is about 64kg. Add 2 kg for scull riggers. If you need exact details, please contact your distributor.

Touring Gig 2+ Short

In Spring 2009 we added the Touring Gig 2+ (short) to our range of Freedom Boats.

This is available with various rigger combinations: with sweep riggers only, scull riggers only, or with both sweep and scull riggers, so can be rowed as 2x+, 2+. As with the 4+, the cox position can be converted into an additional sculler, so even as 3x is possible.

  • Width at top of saxboards (excluding width of lip): 79.5cm (31.3 inches)
  • Overall depth at mid-point (including height of lip): 32.5cm (12.8 inches)
